Another necessary evil in learning the basics of marketing online is to be able to move files from your computer to the host computer and vice-versa. Many folks may recommend using cPanel, which offers a variety of things you can do. However, I’d like to focus on the very simple file-moving system called FTP. FTP dates back decades, and is completely free if you do search for an ftp client. I personally like to use “Leech FTP”, but there are many others that are no-cost and available to use.

Just like any file manager, you get to view both your own computer’s hard drive, and the host computer. You then drag the files back and forth, whether you want to upload or download the files you have altered. Go ahead and do a Google search to find out more on how to use FTP programs, they are a snap, and they are free.

In the next installment, I will be explaining how to download a free program that will let you make simple web pages of your very own.

Although you will be told time and time again that you do not need a website of your own, actually you will be 99% better off if you do have one. It will open up doors that you can’t imagine right now, but later down the road, everything from blogging, to building a base of leads to sell to, to reselling products will be a whole lot simpler if you get “hosting”.

The most well known host is “Hostgator” where you can pick up a hosted account for just dollars per month. At this point you can choose any level of service you wish, but I’d recommend anything above the most basic level.

There are other well known names as well such as GoDaddy, but mainly I’d recommend Hostgator because more Internet Marketers use that more than any other host, which may come into play down the road in terms of compatibility issues. Before signing up, think up a unique domain name for your website. It should be fairly broad in scope in case you shift focus. For instance, if you name the site BestDogTrainingTipsOnEarth.com, and then decide to switch to a focus on Gardening, Blogging, or Twitter as your “niche”, then you’ll need a new name! Instead try MyGreatProducts.com, your name.com or anything Generic. Should you only choose .com? and not .net, or .me, or .org, etc? Well, most folks remember .com the best, but that is hard to answer. I mostly get .coms myself and add “MY” or “YOUR” to the beginning of the name to make it unique unless I am using my own name then I simply have myname.com.

I usually use Godaddy, or Namecheap when purchasing a domain name, you should never pay more than 10.00 annually.

So many so called experts have talked about this before. How many times have you read about the importance of ‘adding value’ for your audience? How many times have you read about ‘building trust’ with your readers/prospects?

Many, many times. You know it well. Every marketing guru has spoken about this topic. I’m sick of hearing it. But it STILL bears repeating.

Because some people still don’t get it. What’s the underlying principle for successful online marketing, selling or networking? The art of giving before you try to get. Before you get something from someone, you need to first give them a reason for them to give it to you.

It makes sense, doesn’t it? Don’t you know that everyone has walls around them? Don’t you see them at all? They don’t like to be scammed out of their money. That’s why they’re cautious and won’t just click to buy immediately. They don’t like to waste their hard earned salary on crappy products or services. That’s why they do a thorough research online.

They don’t want to be lied to. That’s why they are hesitant to believe what you say or claim. They don’t want their feelings to be exploited. That’s why they are wary about trusting you with their true thoughts. They have been fooled before and no one wants to feel stupid again.

It’s a defense mechanism designed for self-preservation in a life that is nasty, brutish and short. Living ain’t easy. People are fed-up with hard-sells and sledge-hammer pitches. They’re sick of hustlers always running game on them. Their walls grow stronger, reinforced by the plaster of bad experiences. Once they pigeon-hole you as a ’spammer/scammer’, it’s all over. Don’t bother with getting them to take out their wallets. Won’t happen.

There is a fool-proof way to get people to lower their defenses and commit. You just need to manage their impressions of you. You need to change what they think about what you’re doing. You’re not spamming, you’re offering a product that is designed to fulfill needs. You’re not a money-hungry marketer, you’re a passionate individual who loves to help people achieve their goals. Reframing and re-adjusting the prospect’s image of your brand.

So here it comes. Here’s the part when I tell you to ‘always add value’ and ‘build trust’. But let’s refashion this proverbial tip on selling. Let’s put a spin on value or trust and combine them into a single actionable guideline: Always focus on giving before trying to get.

Give them helpful free content. Give them answers to their questions. Give them a freebie. Point them to tools they need and things they should know. Give them tips they can instantly use in their lives/business. Give them pleasant surprises. Give them interaction. Give them promises you can keep. Develop a history of giving. Be known as a giver.

“This person has given me many valuable things. I have benefited from these gifts. I like her. I will pay attention to what she says. I think I will trust her words. I will lower my guard a little and run with it. What else could go wrong? I’ve only had good experiences with her so far. She has proven herself to be beneficial to me. I think I may…. no, I will commit and take a chance this time. It’ll be fine, I’m sure. Don’t worry too much.”

These are exactly the thoughts you want them to think. This is the inner dialog you want in their heads as they look at your proposition, as they wander and explore your website. This is how you get them to buy, subscribe, agree and take action on your suggestions.

Don’t mass spam your links all over the web and think that you’ll get someone’s trust or money easily. That’s a silly strategy. You’re not selling to robots or animals. You’re selling to people who care about the seller. Get what you want by first giving unconditionally. Manage what people think or feel about you and you’ll get what want easily.

The difference between setting a goal and never achieving it and the goal that you reach is in the action plan you put into place. There is a thought of a goal you want to achieve, but no action plan is designed by you to achieve these goals.

At most, a vague idea is formed as to what might be necessary. There is the idea of what a person wishes to achieve, but no plan on how to get there.

Changing or enhancing your career will not happen if you lounge around dreaming about it. Getting fit is only a dream if you don’t participate in a fitness program.

The same is true for starting an internet business. I don’t care how many people tell you, you will make thousands monthly in just a few short months. Bull!!!! Joining an internet business is just like anything else, change your mindset, set your goals and stick to it. Brand yourself as that leader in your niche and people will follow. Join a business where you have a true mentor that won’t feed you empty promises. Cold calling is humiliating and degrading, posting free classifieds are a waste of time. Join a team where they guide you, and give you the right information to become that successful internet business entrepreneur you desire to be.

Build your own website– do not use your company website. There are numerous websites that will walk you through building a website within a few minutes. Then use your knowledge or gain that knowledge to drive people to your site.

Plan how you are going to achieve your goals in great details. The more you plan the less likely you will fail at reaching them. Plan what needs to be done as well as what needs to be avoided. Is your life purpose about becoming an online entrepreneur?

It’s not easy work looking for your life purpose. It’s easy once you have found it because it will resonate with you. You will have the proverbial aha moment. But getting there requires a lot of patience and a willingness to dig in your mind’s archives to see what you discover.

Just because you haven’t worked out your life’s purpose up to now doesn’t mean that you have wasted your life or that you have been unsuccessful as a person. Nothing that has happened in your life so far has been bad. Everything is part of the palette of experiences that you want to acquire.

But if you do find your life’s purpose, you will find your mood lift, you vibration increase, your well-being and health improve and in general you will enjoy life more. It doesn’t mean that you won’t have set-backs or problems anymore. It just means you will have more energy to resolve them.

So how does one go about finding out what will get you on that right road to finding your purpose? It’s probably going to take a bit of effort to fight your way through all of the preconditioning you have taken on board.

There are many reasons why you might find your purpose difficult to work out. Your parents might have taught you to be cautious and safe in your choices or not to make choices at all. Your teachers or counselors at school might not have recognized your true passion and directed you to something that wasn’t really you. You might even think that you yourself are not worth spending time on because you have family obligations.

Whatever the blocks that you might be facing, take courage and start tearing them down. The pay-off will be worth it. Find what will make you jump out of bed in the mornings, make you forget the time as you enjoy living your passion and captivate all who listen to you as you enthusiastically talk about your life’s purpose. Remember you only have one life to live so don’t be afraid to live it!

Where to start with this huge project. Probably your first and most wise step to take would be to involve a good friend or a personal coach in this exercise. But do try and find a coach who doesn’t tell you what to do. After all, you’ve been told what to do all your life which is why you never found your life purpose in the first place.

Don’t make that mistake again.

All you want is somebody who will keep you focused on helping you realize what you truly want out of life. Who will continue to ask whether this is truly what you would like to do. Is this what you can see yourself being passionate about? Could this be the direction you want to take? Would this choice make you happy? These are just some of the questions that you should be finding the answers for especially if you think you might have stumbled upon your life’s purpose.

But how do you start? Start by asking the plain and simple question: What would you like to be different in your life this very minute? Don’t worry if you get a list of things such as a sports car, a better job, more money, more laughter, a life partner, a soul mate, a vacation get away or just some peace in your life. Continue until you realize what you really want. Maybe respect, a successful online business, branding yourself so people not only want to join you in ventures but also in life.

Eventually this real you will surface, and you will be ready to take your true place in life. You will notice that when you say something like, ‘I would like to create art that will make people happy when they look at it’ that you could get a tingling down your spine. Or you might be able to relate to, ‘I would like to overcome my physical limitations so that I can inspire other people to overcome theirs’. Or you might say I will become successful because that is my life’s destiny. I will become successful and have fun while doing it. Becoming a success is not as difficult as people tend to make it. Do what you enjoy. Change your Mindset.

Think back on times in your life when you were really happy, where the days went by far too quickly, when you laughed with your soul, when you smiled so much your face hurt, and when nothing seemed to be a problem. What were you doing then? Could that be what your life purpose was meant to be?

It’s worth exploring.

Ask yourself Do you know your personal life purpose?

Many self-help books encourage you to work out what your personal life purpose
statement is. But if you are like most of the people who are trying to work out
their life purpose, you will be stuck for words and ideas for just plain finding your passion
and focusing.

What blocks you from being able to work out what you really want to do? Why does
your life purpose escape you? In other words where have all your dreams and
passions gone to that you cannot find them anymore? You want to join an online
business, but just to afraid to jump in and get both feet wet. What is stopping you. Fear?
Lack of 100.00 to get started? Don’t know how to start making money online? No time?
No support system? No sponsor that can mentor you? Again I ask what is blocking you from
realizing your financial freedom starting today?

These questions are very difficult to answer. You will find that digging deep
into yourself to try and work out why you have lost the spark and how to
rekindle it again is almost impossible.

What it requires to find your personal life purpose is to scratch your way
through all of the layers of pre-conditioning you have acquired through many
years to see what is going on inside of you.

Many people live their lives just making do, never finding that passion. With
this comes a constant sense of dissatisfaction or discontent. You always feel as
if you are missing out on something, that life is drifting past without having
achieved anything.

That feeling stems from inside of you where your inner self keeps on saying that
what you are doing is not what your personal life purpose is. Many people never
find it and spend their life with that nagging feeling as if they are missing
something.

Most often people who have this sense of missing something spend their time
trying to fill that void with other things. You have probably experienced this
yourself. You spend your money on buying new clothes, cars or homes in the hope
that it will make you feel good.( Or perhaps jumping from one online business to another.)

It does feel good to drive that new car or move into a lovely home, but the
happy feeling is always short lived. It never lasts because it doesn’t address
the underlying feelings of unease that you have.

You might find yourself drifting from one relationship to another, hoping to
discover in the new partnership a feeling of completeness that you know is out
there somewhere, but you are just not able to find. Or perhaps you join one
online business after another hoping to find that one internet business that you
can succeed at. Find your passion and focus.

If all those lovely new things don’t make you happy for long and your
relationships are not fulfilling you perhaps it’s time to start thinking about
what your personal life purpose statement is. Finding that and aligning yourself
to this purpose could be what you have been looking for for so long. Again find
your passion!

You would not be the only one looking for this answer. In recent years the
numbers of best-seller books that deal with self-help and personal growth issues
have grown into an avalanche. The popularity of the The Secret video stunned
even the people who produced it.

It seems that people are waking up to the fact that they are not following their
life purpose and in fact have no idea what that could be. Many people end up
thinking that the problem is that they are not good enough, that they need to
improve themselves.

They think that if they work hard enough on the self-improvement angle then they
will feel better about themselves and the lives they lead. Is that the answer?
Surely not.

The self-improvement work is just another misleading direction to take. Finding
your life passion and following it is a better way of finding that inner
happiness and contentment. CHANGE YOUR MINDSET!! Everyone has something of
value to offer to others. What is yours?

In this blog I am going to teach you how to use twitter to promote yourself.

Twitter is a social site, also called a Web 2.0 site and if you are not to sure
what Twitter is, then check out the site and do a little investigating cause
Twitter is a mini-social network where you can keep in touch with your
followers constantly. www.Twitter.com
First off, I went to Twitter and set up an account.
I Put in my name
I chose a user name, and this is important. You want a descriptive user
name, or your real name. One or the other. You can change it later on, but
you need to tell all your followers to also change it, and that is unlikely to be
successful for you, so it is best to put a bit of time into deciding on your user
name.
I typed in a password, write it down somewhere to remember it.
I entered my valid email address
I filled in their captcha so they know I am a real person
I clicked Create My Account
I was then asked to link in my current contacts in my email program, I
skipped the step.
I was then asked to begin following others, I skipped this step and clicked
finish.
I then clicked on settings, and was presented with the next screen:
I typed in my URL, it will be visible to my followers.
I then paused for a bit and worked on my bio. The bio is very important. It is
just 160 characters and with this space, you want to convince others to
follow you. It needs to be interesting, funny, informative and catchy. A tall
order for just 160 character
For location, you can put wherever you live or wherever you want, then I clicked Save.
The bio is most important, make it catchy, mysterious and inviting. It
is your first introduction to others, make them want to be your friend.
The Background is also important. You can design one for free at mytweetspace.com

you can also use a background provided by
Twitter, but definitely not the default one. To change my background, I
clicked on Settings, then I clicked on design, and chose the one I wanted,
then clicked save.
I then clicked on Settings and then on Picture. I had a picture of myself, so I
located it on my hard drive and uploaded it. I was almost ready.
The last thing I need to do is set up my reply, which will go out when
someone starts to follow me. Some recommend against automating the
process, but I think if you use the right message, it is a good practice.
I use a free tool found at www.tweetlater.com to set up my automated direct
Message (ADM). I signed up with my account at Tweet later. I clicked on
accounts (once logged in) then new accounts. Here I was able to paste in an
ADM. Mine says: Hi, thanks for the follow. Do you have a blog I could look
at?
This is not a marketing message, but a welcome, lets get to know each other
message. That is the difference. A marketing ADM will be ignored, and
people will unfollow you ASAP So please don’t start marketing your business
opportunities to others right away. Beware and use this feature correctly.
Lastly, I needed to find some followers. So I have someone to tweet to (send
a message to). The best way to do that, is to begin following others because
once you follow others, if they like your bio, they will follow you. The
whole concept is mutual exchange.
I could just follow anyone, but it is best to find like minded individuals,
others with interests aligned with yours to follow, as they will be more
responsive to your tweets.
To find others with similar interests use the Twitter search
http://search.twitter.com/, click advanced and type in keywords of your
target market. It might be gardening, kite flying, internet marketing or
fireman but what ever it is, it will find others, who have used those words in
their bios or tweets, and you can click them and follow them.
I typed in Online Marketing and got this
I clicked on Twitty7x and looked at his profile: His profile said he is
involved in internet marketing and SEO (search engine optimization) and I
saw he has over 5000 followers. I clicked on his followers, and I began
following them. They are targeted to my market, because they already
follow another internet marketer. This is how you find followers, as many of
them will follow you back.
Follow the followers of people in your target demographic.
So that is it. I set up my Twitter account, I entered the necessary information
and I began following targeted people who in turn began following me.
I continue to follow this simple process of following others daily and in no
time at all, my following will grow and grow.
